Learn HinoGuard

Set up a server safely

Get useful defaults without learning Discord permission jargon first.

  1. Choose the server you manage and add HinoGuard if it is not installed yet.
  2. Choose what you actually want to do; HinoGuard derives settings from those goals.
  3. Keep the recommended protection baseline unless your community has a specific reason to change it.
  4. Review the requested permissions and apply only when the summary matches what you expect.
Open dashboard

Understand permissions

Know why HinoGuard asks for a permission and avoid giving Administrator just to make errors disappear.

  1. Open More settings, then Permissions, after choosing your setup goals.
  2. Read each permission together with the goal that requires it instead of treating the list as a technical checklist.
  3. Keep HinoGuard below roles it must manage; Discord role hierarchy can block an action even when the permission itself exists.
  4. If something is blocked, fix the specific missing permission or role position instead of granting Administrator by default.
Open dashboard

Moderate without surprises

Use the smallest action that solves the problem and keep the case history understandable.

  1. Open Protection, then Moderate members, or use the matching slash command directly in Discord.
  2. Choose the target explicitly and add a short reason that another moderator can understand later.
  3. Prefer reversible actions such as timeout when they are enough; use bans only when the situation requires them.
  4. Check the case history when an action looks unexpected instead of repeating a destructive command.

Protect messages without overblocking

Start with conservative protections and only open advanced matching when you really need it.

  1. Open Protection, then Protect messages, and start with mention, word, invite and link protections.
  2. Use the recommended defaults before changing thresholds; aggressive values create avoidable false positives.
  3. Use exceptions only for known roles or channels that genuinely need them.
  4. Open Advanced controls only for custom matchers, exceptions or simulation; most servers do not need them initially.
Open dashboard

Set up member support

Choose tickets for private conversations and forms for structured information.

  1. Open Support and decide whether the request needs a conversation or only structured answers.
  2. Use Tickets for private back-and-forth help that staff may claim and close.
  3. Use Forms when every requester should answer the same small set of questions.
  4. Keep the member-facing path short; add fields or staff steps only when they improve the real workflow.
Open dashboard

Automate safely

Preview recurring actions first and keep automation bounded and reversible when possible.

  1. Open More settings, then Automations, and create the smallest rule that solves the repeated task.
  2. Read the preview before enabling a rule, especially the target channel and recurrence.
  3. Avoid broad mentions or large batches unless the feature explicitly supports and previews them.
  4. If a rule behaves unexpectedly, disable it first and inspect history before editing several settings at once.
